English Nine:

English Nine is a survey course designed to give the student a taste of various types of literature. The student will be exposed to a wide range of perspectives, materials, and experiences.  Throughout the year the student will read and analyze literature, write various compositions, work in small groups, and complete a range of projects.

Public Speaking:

This course will enable the student to place emphasis on the fundamental elements of communication.  This is a performance oriented class and participation is essential and required.  In Public Speaking, the student will deliver a wide variety of speeches which may include an introduction speech, a favorite memory speech, a personal experience speech, a most admirable person speech, a demonstration speech, a researched informative speech, and a persuasive speech.  In addition to speeches, the student will learn the communication process, strategies to active listening, and the 

 

Acting:

 This course will enable the student to place emphasis on the fundamental elements of acting, movement, vocal production, diction, improvisation, and character development.  This is a performance oriented class and participation is not only required but vital towards achievement.  In Acting, the student will study improvisation, pantomime and body movements, vocal expression, reader’s theatre, characterization, monologues, the structure of a play, and stage and theatre terminology.  In addition to daily participation, the student will also participate in improvisation performances, a pantomime performance, a reader’s theatre performance, monologue performance(s), and short scene performances.
