Ceramics 1                                                                                                                                  Credit:  ½ C.U.

Ceramics is a one-semester course that introduces basic hand-built techniques. Sculptural as well as functional objects will be created using slab built and coil construction.

Ceramics 2                                                                                                                                  Credit:  ½ C.U.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

Students will continue developing skills with emphasis on wheel-thrown and sculptural projects. Students will be encouraged to explore experimental techniques in glazing and firing.

Three Dimensional Design                                                                                                            Credit:  ½ C.U.

This semester course is an introductory course in sculpture (relief and sculpture-in-the-round).  Students may explore a variety of media: plaster, wire, metal, wood, wax, stone.  Using these media, students will apply and demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the principles of design.

Extended Study                                                                                                                                      Credit:  ½ C.U.

 

Extended Study is a semester course for those students who are serious about continuing their study of a particular art medium after they have successfully completed the level 1 and level 2 courses for that medium. Enrolling in Extended Study requires permission of the instructor. Students will meet with the instructor and establish a plan for the semester. Since students will be working on new and varied course work each time, Extended Study is repeatable for credit. To enroll for this course, you must complete the Request for Extended Study form, available from any art teacher or in the Counseling Office.

 

Prerequisite: Successful completion of level 1 and 2 of the chosen medium and permission of the instructor. Application required.                                                                                                                                               Fee required
