 Course 1 Description:

Honors English 10:

In Honors English 10, we will be exploring social justice, and how literature and writing can be vehicles for social change. We will read, analyze, and interpret complex texts, all while looking for the theme of social justice. According to the National Association of Social Workers, "Social justice is the view that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities. Social workers aim to open the doors of access and opportunity for everyone, particularly those in greatest need" (NASW). We will explore this definition over the course of the year, and our studies will culminate in a research project that takes an in depth look at a particular social justice issue our society faces today. Writing will also be a focus for this course, and we will develop critical writing skills (narrative, argumentative, research-based) to ensure students are successful, fluid writers.

Course 2 Description:

English 10 CT:

In English 10 CT, we will focus on the individual in society, and how an individual's decisions affect oneself and others. We will read multiple, complex texts that can help us explore this theme, and we will work on writing skills, such as supporting claims with evidence from the text, and writing clearly and thoroughly. Dictionary.com describes individuality as such, "the particular character, or aggregate of qualities, that distinguishes one person or thing from others; sole and personal nature". As a class, the theme of the individual will be used to help us understand why decisions are made, and the impact they can have on us. Our studies will culminate in a research project that looks at identity and the individual, and how we are seen in society today.
