Art 7

Seventh graders experience the different disciples of art- drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, collage- while learning the basics such as technique, craftsmanship, creativity, and the application of the elements of art. Students are expected to gain skill and awareness throughout the quarter. This project based class stresses creative use of studio time and allows the student to self pace. Artists are given the "big idea" for the project, and then are expected to creatively problem solve to make a beautiful solution. Students are graded against themselves and how they learn and grown throughout the quarter. Not every student will grow up to become an artist, but every student lives in a world with art. Sketchbooks are provided. Please bring a pencil, eraser, and chromebook to class.

Art 8

Eighth graders take a deeper journey into the disciples and basics learned in seventh grade art, but begin to encounter complex "big ideas" and are expected to recall information and skills learned in seventh grade to continue growth in the area of art. This quarter course will cover more complex techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, and ceramics. Students will explore art history, aesthetics, and contemporary art. Students self pace and once again explore "big ideas" to come up with artistic solutions to creative problems. Students are graded against themselves and how they learn and grow throughout the quarter.  Sketchbooks are provided. Please bring a pencil, eraser, and chromebook to class.
